Approve quarterly payrolls, resolve new filing blockers, and leverage tax overrides and Canada payroll integration.

Balancing Payrolls Approved

Q2 2026 balancing payrolls have been approved, and transactions will be processed on Friday, July 10th.

As a reminder, balancing payrolls are approved after every quarter end and contain adjustments to taxes that were calculated throughout the quarter for accuracy and alignment with agency rules. This is a important process to ensure accurate and successful tax filings and payments.

You can access a summary of balancing payroll amounts across all your employers using the Quarterly Variance Report, which is available in Console under Reports. For more information, refer to our balancing Help Center article.

New tpa_needed_for_refile Filing Blocker

Starting Thursday, July 9, the Tax Filings API, Console, and Blocked Filings Report will include a new filing blocker reason: tpa_needed_for_refile.

This blocker is applied when a filing needs to be refiled, but Check does not currently hold the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) access required to submit the refile to the agency. This blocker is only applied when TPA is needed for a late filing or refile, not for on-time filing.

How to resolve: Confirm or grant Check's TPA access for the affected account with the agency, then remove the blocker via the remove_blockers API or the "Resolve blockers" action in Console to queue the refile.

You can review the associated resource and resolution path in our API documentation.

New collection_failed Filing Blocker

Starting Thursday, July 16th, the Tax Filings API, Console, and Blocked Filings Report will include a new filing blocker reason: collection_failed.

This blocker can be applied to filings where the agency requires tax payments to happen at the same time as tax filing and do not allow partially paying the amount due. If the employer has any failed payroll debits or other collections, Check will block the filing until the failed collection is resolved to ensure full payment at the time of filing.

This new blocker will replace the missing_tax_funds blocker, which will be retired and bulk resolved across all filings later in July. The new collection_failed will make it clearer what direct action is required to unblock the filing, and will include the payment ID as a resource to know which transaction needs to be retried.

You can review the associated resource and resolution path in our API documentation.

Tax Overrides Available in Production

Last week, we introduced the ability to override federal and state income tax withholding on payroll items using Tax Overrides in Sandbox. As of today, this feature has been enabled in Production.

Tax overrides allow you to build support into your payroll product for cases where employers and employees want a specific withholding tax amount withheld, instead of the amount that would normally be calculated based on the employee’s W-4 elections.

For more details about tax overrides and how to integrate, refer to our API guide and Payroll Item API documentation.

Nmbr for Canada Payroll

We’re excited to share that we have a referral partnership with Nmbr, a payroll infrastructure provider purpose-built for the Canadian market. Nmbr's API is designed for embedded payroll, so the integration experience will feel familiar if you've already built against Check. Any integration would be a direct one with Nmbr, guided by their documentation, onboarding, and Canadian payroll requirements.

If you're interested, reach out to us and we can share more details.

Improved NEXT Component

Two weeks ago, we announced our redesigned and enhanced NEXT workers’ compensation component.

This is a no-op upgrade to the existing NEXT integration component, and there’s nothing to build from your side. We’ve made cosmetic improvements to the overall flow, reworked the UX, and added broker of record switcher functionality to lift funnel conversion.

Today, we are releasing this component to GA.
