Louisiana New Business Registration Guide

Taxes You Must Register For

1. State Income Withholding Tax

2. State Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax

• Part 1: Combined registration (Secretary of State + LDR + LWC)

• Part 2: Separate agency registration (LDR and LWC only)

🔷 PART 1: Combined Registration

🔹 Step 1: Register via geauxBIZ

• Go to the Louisiana Department of Revenue

• Under Businesses, click Register a New Business

• Select the geauxBIZ.com link

• Click Sign In or Create Account → Create Account

• Enter your email and create a password

• Once registered:
• Go to My Dashboard
• Click My Businesses → Add Business
• This links your new account numbers to your geauxBIZ account

🔹 Step 2: Set up your Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point (LaTap) account

• Go to LaTap

• Click Sign Up

• Select Business and click Next

• Enter your account number and business information

🔹 Step 3: Set up your Louisiana Unemployment Account (LAWATS)

• Go to the LAWATS Portal

• Click Show Instructions next to “Are you in need of a User Login ID?”

• Select Create an Employer Login Account

• Provide your account number and business info

🔷 PART 2: Separate Registrations

✅ Registration Steps

1. Go to the LDR Business Registration Page

2. Under Businesses, click Register a New Business

3. Select Additional Revenue Account → then click Register My Business

4. Follow the prompts for Register My New Business

5. Upon submission:
• You’ll receive a confirmation email with your Louisiana Revenue Account Number
• If no email is provided, it will be mailed in 4–6 weeks

🔐 Set up LaTap Account Access

• Go to LaTap

• Click Sign Up → Select Business

• Enter your withholding account number and business information

1. Visit the LWC Registration Page

2. Read the checklist at the bottom of the page

3. Check the box and click Begin Application

🔐 Set up LAWATS Account Access

• Go to LAWATS

• Click Show Instructions → Create an Employer Login Account

• Provide your UI account number and business info

✅ Final Checklist

• Update your payroll account with your:
• Louisiana Withholding Account Number
• Louisiana Unemployment Insurance Account Number
