Taxes You Must Register For

Step 1: Register Through INBiz

  1. Go to: https://inbiz.in.gov/start-business/step-two/
  1. Click “Register Now”
  1. If you don’t have an Access Indiana account:
      • Enter your email and verify with the code sent
      • Set up a password, recovery email, and 2-step verification (optional)
  1. Select your role in the company
  1. Choose “Tax Registration” and select all applicable state services
  1. Click “Take Me to INBiz” to access your dashboard

Step 2: Register for Tax Accounts

  1. Under Online Services, click Register Department of Revenue
      • Click “Start Tax Registration”, review needed information, and proceed
      • Search for business name or ID, then complete tax setup
  1. Return to dashboard and select Register Department of Workforce Development
      • Click “Guide Me”, review details, and complete DWD registration

📄 Account Formats

  • Withholding Tax ID Format: 10-digit numeric (e.g., 1234567890)
  • SUI Account Format: Typically 9 digits (e.g., 123456789)

➡️ Update your Check account with both your Indiana Taxpayer ID and SUI Account Number

✅ Registration Steps

  1. Go to: https://uplink.in.gov/ESS/ESSLogon.htm
  1. Click “Register”, then choose “Employer”
  1. Enter your FEIN and select “No” for existing account
  1. Complete the verification process
  1. Set up your username and password

➤ Granting Third-Party Access to Check

To authorize Check Technologies as your Third-Party Administrator (TPA) for UI filings:

  1. Log into: https://uplink.in.gov/ESS/ESSLogon.htm
  1. Go to Maintain Account > User Information
  1. Expand the External Account Authorizations (Agent) section
  1. Click “Add Agent”
      • Leave business name blank
      • Enter Agent ID: 120389
  1. Click Next, select “Wage Records” under Authorization
  1. Check the acknowledgment box and submit

➤ Local Withholding (County Income Tax)

Tax Agency: Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR)

✅ Key Facts

  • No separate registration is required
  • County taxes are tied to your state Taxpayer ID
  • Employers must withhold local tax for:
    • The employee’s county of residence (as of Jan 1), or
    • The Indiana county of employment (for out-of-state residents)
