Taxes You Must Register For
If you’re hiring employees in Missouri, you must register for:
- Missouri State Income Tax Withholding
- Missouri State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Tax
- Local Earnings Taxes (such as Kansas City or St. Louis, if applicable)

Step-by-Step Registration Process
Step 1: Combined State Tax Registration
Register for both Withholding and Unemployment Tax accounts at once.
- Click Start Registration Here
- Accept the terms and conditions
- Complete the application and select both withholding and unemployment insurance taxes
After submission, you’ll receive your Missouri Withholding Tax ID and Unemployment Employer Account Number.
Step 2: Create a MyTax Missouri Account (Withholding)
To manage withholding tax online:
- Go to MyTax Missouri
- Select Create an Account
- Choose Administrator for my individual or business account
- Agree to terms and complete your user profile
- A confirmation email will be sent with a temporary password
- Log back in, change your password, and answer security questions
- Link your business account to your profile by selecting Manage Accounts and entering your tax account details
Step 3: Set Up a UInteract Account (Unemployment)
To manage Missouri unemployment tax:
- Go to UInteract
- Click New Account Registration
- Select I am an employer and have a DES Employer Account Number
- Complete the registration process to access your unemployment tax account
Local Earnings Tax Registration (If Applicable)
Kansas City
Businesses with employees working in Kansas City must register for the local earnings tax.
- Go to the Kansas City Quick Tax Portal
- Click Register Here
- Choose My Business and follow the registration prompts
After registration:
- Locate your Letter ID under the “Letters” tab when logged in to Quick Tax
- Provide this Letter ID to Check for filing and payment access

St. Louis
If your business operates in or has employees working in the City of St. Louis:
- Complete Form E-9
- Submit by fax to (314) 622-4847 or email to EarningsTaxCOR@stlouis-mo.gov
St. Louis requires reporting of employee earnings for tax purposes. If your business does not withhold this tax, you are still required to report employees residing in St. Louis.

Third-Party Access
MyTax Missouri
To authorize withholding tax:
- Log in at MyTax Missouri
- Select Manage Accounts
- Choose I would like to give access to MyTax Account
- Enter your business account information
- Confirm authorization for Check
UInteract
There is no formal third-party access process through UInteract. If needed, Check will provide instructions based on case-specific requirements.
