South Carolina Withholding Tax
The South Carolina Department of Revenue administers the stateβs income tax withholding. All employers with South Carolina employees are required to register for a withholding account.
Registration Steps
1. Register for a South Carolina Withholding File Number
- Visit the SC DOR Registration page
- Click on MyDORWAY
- Review application instructions and click Next
- Select Register a New South Carolina Business or Remote Seller
- Choose the appropriate type of ownership from the dropdown menu
- Complete the application form
You should receive your South Carolina Withholding File Number upon completion.
2. Create a Username and Password
- Go to MyDORWAY
- Click Sign Up
- Select Create Your Profile and follow the steps to create your user account

South Carolina State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Tax
The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) oversees the SUI program. Employers must register with the agency once they are liable under South Carolina law.
Registration Steps
1. Register for a South Carolina Unemployment Account Number
- Visit the SC DEW Employer Portal
- Click Employers
- Under "I need to", select Register for an Account β Employers
- Review the registration instructions and click Next
- Create a Username and Password to begin registration
2. Authenticate and Log In
- Return to the SC DEW Employer Portal
- Click Employers
- Under "I need to", select Authenticate My Account β Employers
- Enter your Employer Account ID and PIN
- After authentication, return to the homepage and log in under Log Into My Account > Employers
