Release new Employee Tax Statement APIs and customize company names on bank statements.

Employee Tax Statement and Tax Packages APIs

Today, we’re thrilled to release the Employee Tax Statements and Tax Packages APIs.

Employee Tax Statements provide visibility into individual employee W-2s and W-2Cs that are expected or already submitted. The Employee Tax Statements API shows partners when Check filed these documents, whether they were amended, and their relationship to company filings.

The Tax Packages API enables partners to request individual employee tax statements for download, as well as request multiple filings and tax statements to be downloaded in a zip file in one request, regardless of employer size.

As a reminder, this is meant to replace the W-2 Preview report which will work through the end of 2025. We recommend migrating to these new endpoints by end of year.

Correction: Customize Company Name on Direct Deposit Bank Statements Now Available in Sandbox

Last week, we shared that we had added a property to the Company object called statement_descriptor and that we would be enabling it in production this week. However, due to a technical oversight, this new property was not actually turned on in sandbox until today and we are delaying rollout to production to next Thursday, October 16th.

This new property can be used to override the business name that is provided as part of employee and contractor direct deposit payments and gets rendered on employees’ and contractors’ bank statements. If not provided, this name will default to the Check partner originator name if provided, or “Check Payroll” if not.

See Company API for more details.
