Online Filing Process
- Visit the Jersey City Payroll Tax Filing website.
- Enter your 9-digit Business FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number) when prompted.
- Review and update your registration details.
- For first-time filers, complete all required fields marked with an asterisk (*).
- Enter the payroll tax filing details for the relevant quarter.
Filing Deadlines
File your returns by the following due dates:
- 1st Quarter (January-March): April 30
- 2nd Quarter (April-June): July 31
- 3rd Quarter (July-September): October 31
- 4th Quarter (October-December): January 31 of the following year.
Payment Instructions
If paying by check, make checks payable to "City of Jersey City-Payroll Tax". Include the FEIN on the check to avoid processing delays. The tax rate is 1% of the gross payroll for employers located within Jersey City.
Additional Information
Employers must be registered with the State of New Jersey for payroll tax purposes. Late payments are subject to interest: 8% per annum on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% per annum on amounts exceeding $1,500.
