If you’re starting a business in Alaska with employees, you need to register for:

  • Alaska Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax

Note: Alaska does not have a state income tax

Tax Type: Unemployment Insurance (UI)

Registration Steps

  1. Visit: https://my.alaska.gov
  1. Click “Register for a myAlaska Account”
  1. Create a username, password, and set security questions
  1. Know your NAICS code in advance
  1. Click “Start Registration”
  1. Complete the business registration process

Your account number will arrive in 10 business days

Update Check with your AKDOL account number

Power of Attorney (POA)

Required if Check will file on your behalf

Steps:

  1. Download the POA Form: https://labor.alaska.gov/estax/forms/poa.pdf
  1. Fill it out and have it notarized
  1. Return the completed POA to your payroll provider

We cannot file or pay without this notarized form
