Registration Steps
1. Register for a New Jersey Employer Number
- Under “Getting Registered”, expand the (+) tab that matches your business structure
- Click the “online” registration link
- Under “Select One,” choose your business type and follow the prompts
- Complete and submit your business application
- Upon completion, you will receive your NJ employer number instantly
- Format: Federal EIN followed by a three-digit suffix
- Your information will automatically be forwarded to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development
Important: This number is required for both tax and labor purposes.
2. Set Up Username and Password (myNewJersey Account)
- Visit the myNewJersey portal
- Click Sign Up
- Create a username and password
- Follow verification steps
3. Optional: Setup Comprehensive Access to Both Revenue and Labor Departments
- Go to the New Jersey Premier Business Services (PBS) portal
- Click Create an account
- Follow the steps to link your myNewJersey account to PBS for unified access to tax and labor services
Private Disability Plan Registration (Optional)
If you wish to use a private carrier for NJ Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) and Family Leave Insurance (FLI) instead of the state plan:
- Visit the NJ Employer Disability Insurance page
- Under Private Plan Information, click the application link to submit your carrier details
Note: Disability contributions will be deducted from employee wages, but benefits are paid through the private carrier, not the state.
Unemployment Rate Guidance
When updating your Unemployment Insurance (UI) rate in Check Console:
- Only enter the Final Unemployment Experience Rate
- Do not include:
- Workforce Development Partnership Fund (WF)
- Supplemental Workforce Fund (SWF)
- Family Leave Insurance (FLI)
These additional rates are standard across employers and automatically calculated in the system.
Next Steps
