New business setup

Guide partners on enrolling new businesses for payroll processing with Check Console.

Overview

Partners may find themselves able to offer payroll services to employers that are a brand new business that has never processed payroll before. This article provides guidance on how partners can enroll new business onto Check through Check Console.

New business setup

At Check, we often refer to brand new businesses that have not processed their first payroll yet as an inception company. Since inception companies have no prior payroll history for Check's Embedded Setup team to migrate, we expect partner teams to handle the steps required to enroll the new business in Check Console. The instructions for setting up a new business in Check Console is noted below under Using Console.

All new businesses will be 3 day processors. You can learn more about upgrading your processing period in the Company Review article.

Timelines

Employers that do have prior payroll history adhere to the Embedded Setup timelines. For new businesses, we recommend partners submit at least 5 business days prior to the target payday. This ensures ample time for Check's team to complete our risk review.

Please keep in mind, new businesses that are paying W2 employees will default to a 3-day processing schedule. They will automatically be upgraded to accelerated processing after 10 successful payrolls with no insufficient funds issues. Bank statements are no longer accepted to request accelerated processing.

Getting tax information

It's common for new business to be in an applied for status for new federal or state tax jurisdictions. As such, partners can have employers input a status for Applied For. Partners can leverage Check's Help Center to provide state specific information for registration guidance.

Partners, please set expectations with your employees that Check must have the federal and state ID information prior to the close of the quarter to ensure Check will be able to file and remit taxes on the employer's behalf.

In the event Check does not have the federal or state ID information prior to the end of the quarter, the employer will be responsible for filing and remitting payment to the agency.
