Streamline your payroll processes with updates on Accrue’s migration to Vestwell and W-2 enhancements.

Accrue → Vestwell Conversion

Notion image

Accrue has stopped accepting new plan signups ahead of its migration to Vestwell. Check's 401(k) integration component has been updated automatically — new customers will now see Vestwell branding and can sign up for plans or book a call with a Vestwell representative directly within the flow. Until our full integration launches in April, new customers will be able to sign up for 401(k) plans with Vestwell through the component and will need to manage contributions across Vestwell and Check manually.

Existing Accrue customers can continue to log into their accounts through Check's component, and their 401(k) deductions will continue to be managed automatically. This update only affects new customers enrolling in 401(k) plans for the first time.

W-2 C Preview and Publishing Schedule

During this busy time of year, we know that many employees request changes to their W-2. As a reminder, name changes and SSN updates can be made directly via Console or API and do not require a support ticket. Draft W-2Cs are refreshed nightly, so any name or SSN change will be available for review the following day. All draft W-2Cs are finalized and published on Sunday evenings each week.

For all other W-2 updates, please submit a Correction ticket.

Paystubs for Balancing and Amendment Payrolls Hidden By Default

Amendments and balancing payrolls can sometimes lead to changes in employee taxes or benefit contributions. However, paystubs that reflect these changes can confuse employees because they reflect changes to payrolls that happened in the past and do not lead to immediate impact for the employee. As a result, we’ve made the decision to hide paystubs for balancing and amendment payrolls by default on the Paystubs API. You can still access paystubs for amendment and balancing payrolls by using query parameters.

Cash Requirement on Balancing Payrolls

We’re pleased to announce that the cash_requirement on balancing type payrolls will now be set to equal the amount of the associated money movement transaction needed to fulfill the liabilities on the payroll. We have also backfilled cash_requirement on previously-created balancing payrolls so that data is consistent across the API.

EIC Page Inclusion

The EIC notice is a required statement employers must provide to employees who had no federal income tax withheld, letting them know they may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, a refundable tax benefit for low-to-moderate income workers.

A copy of the EIC notice must be given to the employee, typically around W-2 time, so they’re aware of the credit when filing their tax return. Check has mailed paper copies of the EIC notice to all employees with paper returns who had no federal income tax withheld. Any employee who opted into electronic copies will see the EIC notice when they download a copy of their return.

Employee Tax Statements API Improvements

You can now filter the Employee Tax Statements endpoint by publication_status to easily find draft, published, or pending correction documents. This update is helpful for building workflows like surfacing W-2s that still need review before filing. To learn more, view the docs.
