One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) Updates for 2025 and 2026

Beginning in 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) introduced federal tax relief on qualified tips and overtime pay. We updated our Help Center article on OBBBA to provide additional information about related changes to expect in the 2025 and 2026 tax years.

While there are no mandated changes to Form W-2 in 2025, Check will provide an estimate of qualified overtime for each employee in Box 14 (”Other”), as advised by the IRS. Employees will be able to use this amount to claim a tax deduction on overtime pay on their personal tax returns.

In 2026, Check will make two changes to support new requirements that are expected on Form W-2:

  • Check will begin collecting standard occupational classification (SOC) codes from all employees, which is required for W-2 reporting.
  • Check will provide a tool to read and override employees’ qualified overtime and tips balances ahead of the end of 2026.

Please refer to the Help Center article for more information about OBBBA and these changes. More information about the 2026 changes will be provided later this year.
