Step-by-Step Registration Process
1. Combined Registration for Central Registration Number (CRN) and Employer Account Number
Employers must complete a combined registration to receive both:
- Central Registration Number (CRN) from the Comptroller of Maryland (for withholding tax)
- Employer Account Number from the Maryland Department of Labor (for UI tax)
To register:
- Click Begin Registration at the bottom of the page
- Complete the form to register for both withholding and UI taxes

2. Activate Beacon UI Employer Account
Once you receive your Employer Account Number:
- Click โI need to activate my accountโ
- Enter:
- Your Employer Account Number
- One of the following:
- Last payment amount
- Gross wages reported
- Activation code (provided after registration)
- Follow the prompts to:
- Set up a username and password
- Complete 3 security questions

Grant Third-Party Access to Check
To authorize filing and payment on your behalf:
- Log in to your Beacon Employer Portal
- Under Your Options, select Account Maintenance
- Under Employer Account, choose Agent Assignment
- Click Add Agent
- Enter Checkโs Agent Account Number: MD3Z8J
- Upload the required Power of Attorney (POA) document
- Under Assign Roles, select:
- Wage submission (original and amended)
- Payment submission
- Enter:
- Begin Date: date of assignment
- Leave End Date blank
