Overview
Unfortunately, parting ways with a company on your platform is sometimes inevitable. We make it possible to terminate that company in Console, helping you navigate through the necessary steps to ensure proper tax filing and refunds happen when needed.
Follow the steps outlined below and we'll handle the rest.
Important Note: Before you get started, make sure that you have admin access if Console. If you are not listed as an administrator, offer to buy them lunch, and have them complete these steps.
Steps to terminate
- Navigate to the company in Console
- On the Company Info tab, scroll to the very bottom and click Terminate Company button
- Choose relevant Termination Reason from dropdown menu
- Enter New Payroll Provider (optional, if applicable)
- If company is continuing processing payroll through a determined date, check box next to Termination Date is in the future
- Otherwise, leave unchecked
- If company's next payroll provider is a PEO, check box next to Going to a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
- In the Last Quarter to File, choose if the company would like us to file and pay the current quarter or immediately stop filing returns
- Click Save button
Once saved, this will automatically create a ticket to our Tax Operations team to initiate the termination process on the backend. You will see "Terminated" displayed next to the company's name in Console as well as a screen displaying Terminated Company Details and Terminated Refund Details, when applicable.
You can always go back to check the status and filing status for a company in Console by reviewing the Terminated Company Details on the main Company page. Here you will find:
