Help Center Revamp

We’re excited to announce Check’s new and improved Help Center. With a cleaner design, improved search functionality, standardized formatting and language across articles, and a content refresh, we believe the new Help Center will be easier to navigate, and more useful in your day-to-day.
We’ll be rolling out the new Help Center experienced over the weekend, and can’t wait for you to get your hands on it. No action is required from you or your team to adopt the new experience.
“Taxes” tab in Console renamed to “Setup Parameters”
The “Taxes” tab has been renamed to “Setup Parameters” in the Console navigation bar.
A new and improved “Taxes” tab, which provides a view of applicable taxes for a company, filterable by workplace and employee, is coming soon.
REMINDER: Improved quarter end balancing for Texas
At every quarter end, we run a process called balancing to ensure your customers’ taxable wages and tax amounts align with agency rules. This helps drive accurate filings and tax payments, and can result in variance refunds or collections. While these variances have been visible, the details behind them haven’t, leaving customers in the dark about what changed.
We’re beginning to change that—starting with an alpha for Texas State Unemployment Insurance.
Starting next week, you’ll see a new balancing payroll type in Console and the Payrolls API. This payroll includes changes to Texas taxable wages and tax amounts, with clear visibility at both the tax and employee level. This is just the first step. We’ll expand this visibility across all states over time as part of our broader push to make quarter end more efficient and transparent.
Industry Updates
Alabama Overtime Tax Exemption Expired July 1
As of July 1st, 2025, Alabama’s temporary exemption on state income tax for overtime pay has expired. No action is needed to resume withholding Alabama state income tax on overtime wages. This change has taken effect automatically for payrolls with paydays after July 1st, 2025.
Federal “No Tax on Tips” and Overtime Bill Advances
On July 1st, 2025, the U.S. Senate passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which includes provisions to eliminate federal income tax on tips and overtime pay. The bill now moves to the House for consideration. If it were to pass, employees would be able to claim a deduction on tips and overtime wages on their personal tax returns. Additionally, changes may be required to W-2s for the 2025 tax year.
Check is continuing to monitor this bill and will ensure that we are prepared to support if it were to pass.
