Update NY MCTMT rates effective July 1, 2025, and explore our new partnership with Human Interest.
Retroactively Updated NY MCTMT Rates
Effective July 1st, 2025, New York Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Mobility Tax (NY MCTMT) has introduced updated tax rates for employers in New York City and the surrounding counties. These updated rates have been implemented in Check’s payroll calculation and setup parameters.
NY MCTMT rates are determined by employers’ total quarterly payroll expense for the calendar quarter. Employers with less than $437,500 in quarterly payroll expense will be subject to a lower tax rate than prior quarters, and employers with a quarterly payroll expense of $2.5M or more will be subject to a higher tax rate. Refer to the agency website for more information about how this tax is calculated and this rate change.
No action is required for employers to adjust NY MCTMT that has been calculated since 7/1. Any over- or under-withheld NY MCTMT tax amounts will automatically be applied as a variance refund or collection at the end of Q3 (in early October).
